Book of Exodus Chapter 37: The Glory of God in the Tabernacle

Welcome, al-Kitāb Student! Today, we will reflect on Exodus Chapter 37, which describes the construction of various furnishings for the Tabernacle. Bezalel, a craftsman filled with the Spirit of God, skillfully made the Ark of the Covenant, the Table of Showbread, the Golden Lampstand, and the Altar of Incense according to God's instructions. This chapter emphasizes that worshiping God must be done wholeheartedly and in obedience to His commands. Let’s explore the profound meaning behind this passage.

A realistic depiction of Exodus 37_ A skilled craftsman, Bezalel, carefully constructing the Ark of the Covenant inside a simple, well-lit workshop.

In this chapter, Bezalel, who was chosen and filled with God’s wisdom, began crafting the Tabernacle’s furnishings:

  • The Ark of the Covenant – Made of acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold, the ark had two cherubim on its atonement cover, symbolizing God's presence among His people.

  • The Table of Showbread – Also made of acacia wood and overlaid with gold, this table held the showbread, representing the fellowship between God and His people.

  • The Golden Lampstand – A lampstand made of pure gold with seven branches, continuously burning as a symbol of God's guiding light.

  • The Altar of Incense – Used for burning incense as a fragrant offering to God, signifying prayers and worship rising before Him.

Every detail of these furnishings demonstrates that God desires worship to be holy, orderly, and according to His will. Bezalel and the other craftsmen’s meticulous work shows that worshiping God is not just about good intentions but also about diligence in obeying His commands.

Application in Daily Life: Worshiping God Wholeheartedly

Exodus 37 teaches us that worshiping God must be done with reverence and dedication. God not only looks at what we do but also how we do it. Just as Bezalel worked with wisdom and perseverance, we too are called to offer our best to God—whether in our work, ministry, or daily lives.

In modern life, we may not be building Tabernacle furnishings, but we can still give our best in everything we do as an act of worship to God. Whether in our jobs, studies, or ministries, we are called to do everything with an attitude that glorifies Him.

Reflective Questions: Offering Our Best to God

  • How can we apply Bezalel’s dedication in our work and ministry?

  • Are we truly giving our best to God in every aspect of our lives?

  • How can we ensure that our worship is sincere and aligned with God’s will?

"Offer your best to the Lord, for He is worthy of all glory and honor."

Thank you for joining our reflection on Exodus Chapter 37. May we always strive to give our best to God in everything we do. See you in the next discussion!
