Welcome back, al-Kitāb Student, to our journey through the Book of Exodus. This time, we will delve into the profound messages and promises found in Chapter 6, where God reaffirms His covenant to Moses and the Israelites, preparing them for deliverance from Egyptian bondage.
This chapter begins with God revealing Himself to Moses in a new and deeper way. God emphasizes His identity as "the LORD" (YHWH), a name not fully known to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. By this name, God reminds Moses of His covenant and reveals His intention to free the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. This promise is not just about physical liberation but also about spiritual redemption and the restoration of a special relationship between God and His people.
Despite God’s clear and powerful promise, Moses faces doubts and difficulties in fulfilling his mission. When Moses delivers the message of deliverance to the Israelites, they do not listen to him because they are too discouraged by their harsh bondage. Moses himself doubts his ability to convince Pharaoh, given his limitations as a man of "uncircumcised lips." This teaches us that even great biblical figures face doubts and challenges in their divine callings.
God does not give up on Moses. He reiterates Moses' mission to confront Pharaoh and deliver the message of liberation. God assures His presence and provides clear instructions to Moses and Aaron. Here we see the importance of courage and obedience in fulfilling God's calling, despite the heavy obstacles and challenges.
